LAURIE FINDLAY, LMT, NMT
![]() |
In 1996 Laurie graduated from New Life Institute in Atlanta (now Rising Spirit Institute of Natural Health) where she received certification in massage therapy and also neuromuscular therapy. Ever since her introduction to NMT, also known as trigger point therapy, she has often found the work to be highly effective in relieving muscular pain, especially when trigger points have developed in the muscles. Needless to say, she is ever indebted to the pioneering work of Dr. Janet Travell, who was JFK's physician, and Dr. David Simons. Together they located and charted the common trigger points that can develop in muscles, along with their pain referral patterns, and also discovered ways to release the trigger points. Regrettably their exhaustive research has not yet been embraced by the medical community, but what they share in their extensive two volumes, Myofascial Pain and Dysfunction The Trigger Point Manuals, is invaluable for so many people in pain. Often her sessions are an interweaving of Swedish massage, which is a relaxing massage, and NMT - that is, if deeper, more specific work is needed and wanted. |
Laurie is also a pregnancy massage therapist and was certified in 1998 by Carole Osborne-Sheets. Not only is pregnancy massage extremely beneficial for the pregnant woman but it also helps deliver more blood, oxygen and nutrients to the baby in the womb. Please note, however, that pregnant women need approval for massage from their healthcare provider.
In addition, a great many of Laurie's regular clients are seniors. Since 1998 she has been offering massage therapy at Life Enrichment Services, one of the first senior centers in the Decatur/Atlanta area.
Nationally certified in therapeutic massage and bodywork since 2000, Laurie is a member of ABMP (Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals), CAMA (Complementary and Alternative Medical Association) and International Association of Healthcare Practitioners.
